Looking for a great way to spend some free time? Want to meet new people, contribute to the community and help us keep costs down? Have we got a deal for you......
In exchange, you will recieve our heartfelt thanks, public recognition on our website and at the next annual meeting and satisfaction in a job well done.
If you have any ideas for "volunteer appropriate" activities or know of anyone (including yourself) who deserves recognition for a volunteer activity, please send them to clewebmaster1@gmail.com
Invasive Plants: Black Swallowwort is over taking Sunset Drive and other areas of the estate. It is on the list of CT invasive weeds and has ramifications on the Monarch butterfly life cycle too. We would like to organize a team to get together and pull it out before it seeds and proliferates further. Please check out this website for further information: http://www.uri.edu/cels/ceoc/documents/blackSwallowwort.pdf. Please contact Muriel Grabe [muriela@nyc.rr.com] who has researched and is coordinating this important task.
CLE Historian: We are looking for someone to write the history of Candlewood Lake Estates. Ideally, this would include a bit about the formation of Candlewood Lake, the early days of Candlewood Lake Estates through modern times. Historic pictures would be great. If you would like to take this on, or have any material to contribute, please contact Scott Randall at clewebmaster@optonline.net.
Light Carpentry: The mailbox structure on Green Pond could use new wood shingles and some light repair. Contact Scott Randall at clewebmaster1@gmail.com to learn more about what is required.
Thanks to Frank Zipp and Scott Randall (with materials donated by Roy Vazquez) the mailbox structure has been patched. Although this repair work showed that a more extensive rebuild will be needed soon, the repairs should last at least through the season. Although the "two poles and a plank" were installed by CTD, the rest of the structure is jointly owned by the individual mailbox owners.
Reflector Sign Repair: The large Parabolic Safety Mirror on Green Pond Road needs to be repaired. Please Contact Scott Randall at clewebmaster1@gmail.com to learn more.
Thanks to Scott and Deb Randall, a new backing has been installed on this safety mirror and the reflector has been reinstalled. See, not that hard.....
